5 Tips to Feel Comfortable and Confident in Front of the Camera

If the thought of getting in front of the camera makes you immediately stiffen up—you’re not alone. Almost every couple I work with tells me the same thing: “We’re so awkward in photos!” But here’s the truth—feeling comfortable in front of the camera is absolutely possible (and honestly, easier than you think).

Here are my top five tips to help you feel like your most confident, capable self during your engagement session:

1. Focus on Each Other, Not the Camera

The best photos happen when you forget I’m there. I’ll guide you with prompts and natural movements that keep you focused on your partner instead of the lens. Whether it’s sharing a quiet moment or laughing over an inside joke, leaning into your connection is what creates those dreamy, effortless photos.

2. Wear Something You Feel Amazing In

Forget trends—wear what makes you feel good. Comfortable, flattering outfits that feel like “you” will automatically boost your confidence. Think flowy dresses that move with the wind, cozy sweaters for mountain sessions, or your favorite boots that make you feel like a boss. When you feel good in your clothes, it absolutely shows in your photos.

3. Embrace the Awkward Moments

Here’s the secret: we all feel a little awkward at first. The magic happens when you let yourself laugh through those moments. I’m here to give direction, cheer you on, and make sure you never feel lost. The most genuine, joy-filled photos often come from embracing the goofy in-between moments.

4. Trust the Process (and Your Photographer)

You don’t have to know what to do—that’s my job! I’ll guide you every step of the way, from where to stand to how to interact naturally. All you have to do is show up, be present, and trust that I’ve got you covered. You don’t need to “perform” or force anything. The real, authentic moments are more than enough.

5. Remember Why You’re Here

At the end of the day, this session is about celebrating this season of your relationship. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about capturing the way you love each other—right here, right now. When you shift your mindset from “I hope I look good” to “I can’t wait to have these memories,” everything changes.

If you’re feeling nervous, that’s normal. But I promise—by the end of our session, you’ll feel way more confident than when you started. And when you see your gallery, you won’t see awkwardness. You’ll see you two, exactly as you are, in all the best ways.
